.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1242 AM CST Fri Feb 6 2026
Northwesterly flow aloft will continue through early next week as
our local area remains in between an upper-level trough over the
eastern US/western Atlantic and an upper ridge over the central
US. A strong shortwave, embedded within the northwesterly flow
aloft, will pass across the Mid Atlantic states tonight into
Saturday. This will allow for a cold front to push into our area
from the northeast. Latest guidance is now suggesting that this
cold front should pass through the entire region, as opposed to
stalling overhead on Saturday, ultimately leading to a cooler and
drier weekend. Behind the front, high pressure will initially
build in across the Appalachians, eventually sinking into the
northeast Gulf. This will allow for a light onshore flow to
develop on Sunday, leading to a much more mild weather pattern
for the beginning to middle part of next week. We will likely
remain dry through most of the period, although rain chances may
increase by Tuesday night into Wednesday as a southern stream
trough passes overhead.
Highs today will top out in the mid to upper 60s, maybe even a few
lower 70s over southeast Mississippi. Lows tonight will range from
the mid 30s inland to the low 40s along the coast. With the front
pushing through late Friday night, highs will drop back into the
upper 50s to low 60s for Saturday and lows Saturday night will
range from the upper 20s inland to the mid 30s along the coast. Our
expected warmup then commences on Sunday and especially into early
next week, with highs reaching the low to mid 70s by as early as
Monday. Lows Monday night through Wednesday night will generally be
in the 50s. These warmer temperatures, along with light onshore
winds and higher humidity values, may lead to sea fog concerns next
week. We`ll keep an eye on trends over the coming days. A Moderate
Risk of rip currents will be in place through tonight, falling to a
Low Risk for the rest of the period. It should be noted that a brief
bump to a High Risk cannot be ruled out over our Florida beaches
this afternoon. We will monitor beach conditions closely throughout
the day today. /96
